We are fortunate to be part of a vibrant and improving neighborhood, but we border areas of the city which are dangerous.  Drive by shootings, muggings, rapes, burglaries and graffiti is all around.

This Station services a large area of the city.  Closing this station will lead to a decay of our community, our property values and safety. The physical structure and strong police presence of Police in our neighborhood has been a beacon of safety to our neighborhoods.

Save the Wood Street Station.  As you read this, the City of Chicago is planning to close the 13th District Station. The City is citing cost savings as the reason for this closing.

Preliminary estimates are the City will save $100K a year in operating costs.  And once the station is gone, we will see reduced police responsiveness (the next closest police station is over 2 miles away).

Expect an erosion of public safety and more ‘broken windows’ in these great neighborhoods.  Any promises made to keep patrols ‘local’ once the station is gone, can & will be changed…  we will lose.

If the station remains, we will keep a strong local police presence (the station, a flurry of patrol cars in the neighborhood).

Chicago, IL
Phone Number

Date

Hon. Rahm Emanuel
Mayor City of Chicago
121 N. LaSalle - Room 507
Chicago, IL 60602

Dear Honorable Mayor Emanuel:

I am a taxpayer, resident and voter in Chicago and strongly oppose the closing of the 13th District Police Station at 937 N. Wood St., Chicago, IL.  Cutting costs should not mean cutting public safety.  Money can be saved by not closing the station and furthermore by modernizing this station to make it more efficient.

Nothing is more important to public safety than a strong local police presence.  Our community should not be penalized because we work hard with our local police at the 13th District Wood St. Station to fight crime, conduct neighborhood watches, are vigilant about safety and work closely with our local police leaders.

Our citizens, local businesses and visitors demand this station not be closed for the well being and safety of our community, our families, our children, our businesses, our neighbors and our property values.  Please not only keep the station open, but help improve our city by modernizing it.

Sincerely,_________________________________
